TWONG x gorelate: gomigrate: Rapid CRM migration during ongoing business operations

12. June 2017

Tina Zembacher

From the changeover to the new CRM system, TWONG® expected
the Viennese manufacturer of mobile mounting systems, maximum data quality and customer care. From the conversion process itself, a minimum of personal effort and impairment of ongoing business operations. With the help of their migration tool gomigrate, the CRM consulting company gorelate performed the complete conversion Microsoft Dynamics CRM through.

Sequence

The migration of the old system update.CRM took place in three steps:

  • Initial migration based on database snapshots
  • Adjustments to the Dynamics CRM application
  • Delta migration of data changes to the new system

First, the existing system update.CRM was migrated to Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online. The mapping of the update.CRM data model in Dynamics CRM was carried out using the gomigrate migration tool  developed by gorelate. This tool not only enables the field mapping of different data models but also facilitates data migration and user transfer. After the initial migration, adjustments were made to forms, lists, dashboards, and templates in the new CRM system without disrupting the customer's daily work. The Microsoft Dynamics CRM system, which had been serving as a "development and test system" until then, was then accepted by the customer. Subsequently, a delta migration was performed to transfer the modified or new records that had occurred in the meantime to the new CRM system. This transition automatically turned the Microsoft Dynamics CRM test system into the production system, allowing the old CRM solution to be replaced.

Benefits at a glance

  • Initial data transfer using a specially developed tool

The gomigrate migration tool, developed by gorelate, enabled the seamless initial transfer of data from existing CRM systems to MS Dynamics CRM (both online and on-site), including the creation of missing fields, tables and structures.

  • Disposal of “legacy” via field mapping

The areas to be transferred from the old to the new CRM system were determined by means of data analysis. On this basis, gorelate specified the field mapping, e.g. the use of individual fields and degree to which they had been filled. This means that fields that were not filled in the old system were not migrated. The side effect was to get rid of unneeded “legacy burdens”.

  • Removal of duplicates, transfer of permissions

Documents that had been saved more than once were cleaned up during the takeober, and documents that were no longer needed were skipped. In adition to the data model transfer and the data migration, the processor assignments were also transferred to the new system and used to map the access rights.

  • Conversion in best time

The entire duration of the project from start to finish was less than a month, including adjustments and customising.

„"The migration to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM system using the gorelate's migration tool was done smoothly, quickly and very efficiently. It's fun to work with the gorelate team."

Thomas Gürtelbauer, Managing Director of TWONG® Engineering
